3 Ways to Embrace Autumn’s Energy for Personal Growth: Let Go, Grow, Thrive

Just like the changing weather and landscapes, our lives also go through various phases, each with its own unique energy and lessons to offer. One season that holds immense wisdom for us is autumn. In this blog post, we will explore how we can honour the physical seasons and embrace the elements of autumn in our own lives. Let’s dive into the energies of each month during the season and discover how they can guide us through transitions and personal growth.

Meteorological vs. Astronomical Autumn: Finding Your Rhythm
Growing up in the Southern Hemisphere, autumn meant the familiar months of March, April, and May (the meteorological definition). But over the past seven years, I’ve found myself drawn to the astronomical perspective – here in New Zealand, that’s marked by the Autumnal Equinox on March 20th. This is the point where day and night are roughly equal, signifying a shift in the Earth’s relationship with the sun.

For me, each season holds a distinct energy – a beginning, middle, and end. Ultimately, how you define the changing seasons is a personal choice. Ultimately, how you define the seasons is a personal choice. For this post, though, I’ll be exploring autumn through the lens of its astronomical energy.

Autumn’s Invitation to Release and Renew

Autumn arrives with a crisp breeze, a gentle reminder to release what no longer serves us. Just as trees shed leaves, we too can shed emotional baggage that weighs us down. This could be lingering resentment towards someone, or doubts about your abilities that hold you back from pursuing your goals. Let this season inspire you to shed any negative self-talk or limiting beliefs that might be hindering your growth.

Embrace the spirit of renewal by decluttering your physical space. Sort through your wardrobe – are there clothes you haven’t worn in a year? Do you have a drawer full of unused gadgets? Letting go of these items creates space for new things to enter your life, both physically and metaphorically.

When you let go of what no longer serves you, you create space for new experiences and opportunities to emerge, just like the vibrant autumn foliage that bursts forth after the leaves fall.

The Mid Energy of Autumn: Nurturing and Harvesting Our Inner Growth

As the crisp air deepens and autumn progresses, it ushers in a sense of nurturing and harvesting. Just like farmers gather their crops, this is the perfect time to cultivate your inner growth and harvest the seeds you sowed earlier. Embrace self-care practices that nourish your soul. Indulge in activities that bring you joy and recharge your spirit – a long walk in nature, a relaxing bath with a good book, or spending quality time with loved ones.

This is also a season of reflection and gratitude. Take a moment each day to acknowledge the blessings in your life, big or small. Cultivate an attitude of gratitude by keeping a weekly journal and writing down three things you’re grateful for. When we express gratitude, we not only feel happier but also invite more abundance and positivity into our lives.

Sometimes, we’re so busy hustling that we forget to pause. Autumn reminds us that it’s also a time to harvest the fruits of our labour. Celebrate your achievements, no matter how big or small. Take pride in the progress you’ve made on your personal goals and aspirations. This is an opportunity to recognise your own strength and resilience as you move forward.

The End Energy of Autumn: Reflection, Gratitude, and Embracing Stillness

As the golden hues of autumn deepen and the days grow shorter, a natural shift towards reflection and preparation sets in. Take some quiet moments to contemplate the experiences and growth you’ve encountered during this season of your life. What lessons have you learned about yourself? What challenges have you overcome? Use these reflections as stepping stones for continued growth in the months ahead.

Gratitude remains essential during this contemplative stage. Take time to appreciate the people who have supported you along the way – friends, family, mentors, or coaches. Write them a heartfelt note or simply express your thanks in person. Gratitude not only strengthens these bonds but also uplifts your own spirit.

As winter approaches, nature itself prepares for a period of stillness. This can serve as a powerful reminder to embrace a similar inward focus. Turn your attention inwards and prioritise self-care activities that nourish your mind, body, and soul. Engage in meditation, yoga, or any other practice that brings you inner peace. By nurturing yourself during this time, you’ll be better prepared to flourish when spring arrives.

Take a moment to reflect on the current season of your life and how you can align with the energy of autumn. Here are some practical ways to embrace this energy:

  • Create a “letting go” list: Identify things that no longer serve you, whether it’s negative thoughts, limiting beliefs, or physical clutter. Releasing these burdens can create space for new beginnings.
  • Start a gratitude jar: Throughout the season, write down things you’re grateful for on small pieces of paper and add them to the jar. Taking a moment to reflect on these blessings can boost your mood and perspective.
